GLFS for Sage 300cloud
Financial Statement Designer is the gold standard for financial reporting in Sage 300 for as long as the product has been ported to the Microsoft Windows platform. Even amongst the competition, this capability is without parallels.
The ease of use coupled with the full power of a spreadsheet base is unbeatable. Many of you probably will have customers that has good things to say about this feature.
However, with the move to Sage 300cloud, it means that you cannot continue to have the sophistication and flexibility. The alternative from Sage may not be able to solve all your complex reporting needs. This means you have to resort to editing your financial reports in Statement Designer and running it from there. This negates the benefit of the on-premise Cloud solution offered by Sage 300cloud.
Here comes GLFR for Sage 300cloud. First, let us clarify that this add-on does not replace Statement Designer. It is not a solution for editing financial reports in the Sage 300cloud environment. You will still need to go back to Statement Designer on the classic desktop environment to do that. However, it solves the problem with viewing, printing and saving of report outputs in the Sage 300cloud interface. This is something missing in Sage 300cloud, even on the 2018.1 release.
How do we do it
With some ingenuity, we are able to allow the interaction of report generation from Sage 300cloud interface by calling the classic desktop program. We do this by executing the exact same program that you would be using if you were to print the report traditionally.
In our solution, we took a couple of notches further. We provided the same reporting options but in a familiar Sage 300cloud look and feel. This is possible because we adopted the exact same methodology and tools used to craft Sage 300cloud screens.
Additionally, we eliminated the display of Microsoft Excel screen during the generation process. This means you only need a single license of Microsoft Excel on the web server and client devices can be any browser supported by Sage 300cloud, including tablets and mobile phones. This is flexibility and convenience.
Because the whole process runs using native calls to Statement Designer (also known as FR), this means all reports run without change. To make a report available to users of Sage 300cloud, you simply copy the Microsoft Excel file to the GLFS Templates folder. This process has an added benefit besides its simplicity. It allows you to determine which report to make available. All work in progress reports can be placed in its original folder and remain inaccessible from Sage 300cloud.
Is the installation complicated?
No, it is as simple as running the installer and making a couple of settings. You can get an up and running with this literarily in minutes. If you choose to stop using this, it is just as easy to uninstall it. It does no change to your data and hence it is a risk free solution to a demanding challenge.
